The original Lewis Chessmen, carved from walrus tusk and whale tooth, were discovered around 1831 on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland. These extraordinary pieces are admired for their emotive faces, intricate designs, and Norse heritage. Of the set, 11 pieces are housed at the National Museum of Scotland, while the British Museum holds 82 items, including chessmen and additional artifacts.
