Depicting a Viking warrior, this chess piece features intricate detailing, including a sword, kite-shaped shield, and a unique helmet, showcasing the craftsmanship of medieval artisans.
The original Lewis Chessmen were discovered in 1831 on a beach at Uig, Lewis, Scotland. Made from walrus ivory and sperm whale tooth, these chess pieces are believed to have been created in Trondheim, Norway during the Viking Age. The collection reflects the cultural and artistic pinnacle of that era, representing strategic thought and social hierarchy through detailed carvings of kings, queens, bishops, knights, and pawns.
